Andy Goldsworthy State of Mind

One afternoon, when Little Boy was almost 2, we spent the day at the park creating art, a la my favorite land artist, Andy Goldsworthy.

Today I found this Flickr group with people who have done the same, and it’s a wonderfully inspiring array of outdoor art.

I’m thinking my friend Chica, who tromps around her mountain, harvesting, planting, feeding chickens, preparing soil, and chopping wood, should start doing land art as she goes, and leave it all around the mountain.

Here’s the Flickr link (http://www.flickr.com/groups/andygoldsworthy/pool/)

Now I’m brainstorming some Goldsworthy ideas for the back yard this Autumn.

  1. LIVING ART HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE AND WITH GREAT PRAISE. TRULY ONE OF THE PUREST FORMS IN WHICH A HUMAN CAN BRING FORTH THE SPLENDOR OF NATURE. BUT… ONLY RABBIT IN THE RAIN UNDERSTANDS THAT IT IS HER ASSOCIATION WITH NATURE THAT TURNS THE MERE REARRANGING OF NATURES BEAUTY INTO LIVING ART. YOU SEE, HER SON JACK AND HER ARE NOT JUST REARRANGING OBJECTS. JACK IS BEING TAUGHT THAT AS HE PLACES A FLOWER INTO THE TRUNK OF A TREE,NOT ONLY DOES THE OBJECT CHANGE BUT SO DOES HE ,AND ALL THE WORLD AROUND HIM. TRUNK,STUMP,MOTHER AND CHILD ,BECOME A SYMPHONY IN PRAISE OF EACH OTHERS BEAUTY. BRILLIANT AND INSPIRATIONAL !
